About Us

Common Purpose is an international, not-for-profit organisation that has been running leadership development courses and workshops since 1989.

Our vision is to give people the skills, connections and inspiration they need to become better leaders both at work and in society.

Common Purpose was founded by Julia Middleton in 1989 and currently delivers leadership development opportunities in 46 cities around the world.

Common Purpose helps leaders to:

  • become better - and significantly faster - at breaking down silos and crossing cultures. We bring together an incredible diversity of leaders from different sectors, cultures and backgrounds.
  • operate effectively outside their comfort zone. Our experiential work takes place in prisons, trading floors, schools, hospitals, production plants and more.
  • deliver complex change. We take our inspiration from real-life leadership issues and insights.

Our vision is encapsulated within our Charter:

An introduction to Common Purpose by founder and CEO Julia Middleton

"We cannot wait for great ideas from great people to solve society's problems. We must look to ourselves".

Cyril Ramaphosa, Chair of the Constitutional Assembly of South Africa, 1994-96
