"Common Purpose gave me a view of the Thames Gateway that has enabled me to start three new businesses and expand into Europe and Sub Saharan Africa"

Sharing knowledge, as a result of new insights gained on Common Purpose...

Johannesburg, South Africa
Jovial Rantao, Deputy Editor of The Sunday Independent, feels that as a direct benefit of completing Matrix, his news stories have become increasingly detailed, in depth and accurate because of his greater knowledge of Johannesburg and the challenges it faces. This has been a huge benefit to the newspaper as a whole, and as a result it has now become well-known for its coverage of inner city issues: “The newspaper has become more involved in the regeneration of the inner city and housing issues there; conducting investigations and publishing both issues and successes to publicise these to the community.” (Graduate of Matrix Johannesburg 2003)

Kent, United Kingdom
Harvey Guntrip is the Director of Crystal Energy in Kent and a Non-Executive Director of Bromley Primary Care Trust. In 2005, he took part in Focus in North Kent, which had a profound impact on his business, leading to it developing internationally: “Common Purpose gave me a view of the Thames Gateway that enabled me to start three new businesses and expand into Europe and Sub Saharan Africa.”

Budapest, Hungary
Tamás Fodor is the head of Rákóczi Kert Civil and Community Centre. He participated in the Budapest Matrix course in 2008 and says that it has had a profound impact on him as leader. Tomas says that Matrix has led him to restart some previous projects that he had given up on. He credits the conversations with fellow participants and contributors of the course with this. He is convinced that the professional spheres we usually move in limit the development of our leadership skills and styles and the Common Purpose can provide a leap in one’s thinking.

“You get an idea of how you can align yourself with other organisations without sacrificing any of your own values or individuality. This knowledge of others also provides a chance to see where collaboration opportunities lie and the way in which developing a shared purpose is possible and valuable.”

Nicola Danby, Arts consultant (Graduate of Matrix Johannesburg 2002)
