How taking part in a Common Purpose course helped an artist
take his work to an international level
"The Common Purpose Meridian programme has truly helped me
push myself to an international level of success as an artist; to
lead beyond my authority and find inter-peace at the same
time", says artist Zavick Botha.
"I have been able to collaborate with so many of my fellow
Meridian 2010 graduates, both personally and professionally. Dr
Timothy Visser commissioned me to make hand bags as part of Women's
Day celebrations at Eerste River Hospital. I was also invited to
speak to the ladies on their pamper day. Claudia Agulhas invited me
to do a talk on crossing boarders at the Nedbank for their women's
forum. Another graduate Desiree Daniels attended my 'expire
20-10-2010' cannon fired art exhibit and I was a guest of Mandisa
Zitha at the opening of the SA Encounters Documentary Festival.
Mariheca Otto invited me to her home to facilitate a family art
lesson. My 'Learning Group' reminded me to value myself
and as a consequence I did work for a World Cup fashion show, shown
world-wide, employed several interns and had my art exhibited in
the South African National Gallery".
Zavick's work is an immense search for knowledge, both inward
and outward. His art is the material manifestation of what is
essentially and inner and spiritual activity.
He takes his inspiration from his experiences of the world
around him. More significantly he is influenced by opportunities
created by being in tune with his surroundings. He achieves this
resonance through an intense level of physical fitness and the
unwavering commitment to see the best in people.
