The impact of Common Purpose in India from A-Z
Shivaram took part in a Common Purpose course in
Bangalore and came up with a novel way to sum up his learning from
it. He says:
"It has been challenging, because it is not an exam paper to
pass, an interview to attend, a quiz to respond to, or even a book
on Leadership to just read."
So Shivaram created the "Common Purpose Alphabet", some examples
of which are below.
- Aspiration, [represented by] the Akshaya Patra
challenge, the sheer will power of the team to organise mid day
meals [for] thousands of children
- Boldness. I still remember [one contributor's]
experience, on how he [raised a huge amount of money] by thinking
BIG
- Challenges that have been overcome by various
speakers on various occasions in their journey to achievements
- Dedication, [embodied by] employees of the
Karunashraya, where they continue to serve terminally ill cancer
patients, even while they see many of them dying in front of their
eyes
- Humility [of] the doctors in Narayana
Hrudayalaya…where the number of operations they do in this
department alone is equivalent to the number done in England in a
month
- Question the obvious
- Zeal to share learning amongst us
participants, for which some [contributors] went to great lengths
of efforts, time and commitment.
