Meridian alumni offer disaster relief to Van earthquake victims

Alumni from Common Purpose's Meridian course in Turkey have joined forces with the authorities to provide aid to Van earthquake victims.

Meridian Alumni contacted the deputy secretary of the country's Family and Social Politics Ministry to determine the needs of the region following the natural disaster of October 2011.

The former students decided to focus on the more over-looked needs of disaster victims.

They wanted to provide supplies which, while not immediately essential, were still important in guaranteeing hygenie standards amid the harsh weather conditions faced in the region.

Goods such as baby napkins, toothpaste, hygiene pads, toothbrushes, nail clippers, hand and face creams were among those supplied.

They were distributed in three different sizes of aid package to ensure a wide range of families were catered for. Van Social Support Centre collected the supplies and sent them to the Community Centre, which subsequently distributed the provisions to the most affected areas in Turkey.
The deputy secretary of the Family and Social Politics Ministry has personally thanked the Meridian alumni for their aid work.

Van Earthquake struck on 23 October 2011 and is thought to have killed more than 240 people.
