Find out why taking part in a Common Purpose
course inspired an Executive Director at a large
advertising firm to take up not-for-profit roles in South
Africa
Prior to her course, Boniswa Pezisa felt that she was jaded
about the issues facing Johannesburg and South Africa and cynical
about the work that was being undertaken to tackle them. This soon
changed.
"Meeting fellow participants who worked in the
not-for-profit sector was humbling. It really brought home to me
the amount of work that still needs to be done in South Africa. [I
realised] that leaders in all sectors need to work together to
create a healthy civil society."
As a result, she has taken up roles in not-for-profit
organisations. She has chosen those that work with legacy projects
and the development of people as she wants to give back to society
the support and development she received growing up in South
Africa.
She also saw other participants in her group grow in their
ability to effect change in South Africa, most strikingly a woman
who has set up a charity for victims of domestic violence.
