Andrew Armes

Andrew joined Common Purpose as Development Director for Common Purpose Customised in February 2010.

Before setting up his own coaching organisation in 2007, Andrew was Global Vice President, Talent Management and HR Strategy at Invensys PLC, the global engineering conglomerate. Previous to that he was Head of Talent and Resourcing and Head of Career Development at the global pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca. He has also worked in Telecommunications, Retail and the Finance industry, and has lived and worked in various countries throughout his career.

Andrew holds a BSc in Psychology from Warwick University and a Masters in Management Science and Operational Research from Warwick Business School. A regular commentator in the press, as well as a speaker and presenter at related conferences, he has been voted twice in the top 100 most influential HR professionals in the UK by HR magazine. Andrew is a triple Recruitment Advertising and Design (RAD) award winner for employment branding and is passionate about helping individuals, teams and organisations live without fear.

He has just published his first book and recently launched a new global initiative to provide the supportive conditions for the development of insight. Andrew has worked across a broad range of clients from large blue chips such as IBM and Accenture to SMEs and in particular with individuals, teams and organisations that wish to contribute to the world in a meaningful way.

Recent experience includes:

  • Design and delivery of a course for emerging leaders in a global professional services firm.  The aim is to equip these high potential leaders for a more senior role within the firm
  • Creation and facilitation of one element of a course for senior leaders within an international banking group.  The objective is to give these leaders experience of issues and sectors outside the bank and to develop the skills needed for effective collaborative working across sectors
  • Design and delivery of a series of events for Social Enterprise London to facilitate the development of social enterprise and in particular strengthen the relationship between local authorities and social enterprises.
