Michael Duck

Michael is Executive Vice President of UBM Asia (based in Hong Kong), the Asia Pacific regional headquarters of United Business Media Ltd (known as UBM as quoted on the London Stock Exchange). UBM Asia is one of the largest exhibition organisers in the region and Michael has pioneered the exhibition industry into China, India, and S.E. Asia over the last sixteen years. He is also a Director of Shanghai UBM Sinoexpo International Exhibition Co Ltd, today one of the most important independent exhibition organisers in China, its largest fair being Furniture China in Shanghai which is an annual fair taking up 250,000 gross sqm.  Over the past five years Michael has also been instrumental in the formation and growth of UBM India in which time it has become one of the most active exhibition organisers in India in Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Chennai, and Bangalore. UBM Asia is also a publisher of trade magazines (IT, Property, Travel and Energy) and medical directories through its sister company, UBM Medica.

UBM Asia owns and runs Hong Kong's largest trade fair and the world's largest Jewellery trade fair, "September Hong Kong Jewellery and Gem Fair", utilising both exhibition centres in Hong Kong at the same time. UBM Asia also owns and runs Asia's largest beauty and cosmetic event, "Cosmoprof Asia".

Michael is a Director and the Chairman of the Sustainable Development Committee of The Global Association of Exhibition Industry (UFI) based in Paris.

A committed Rotarian for the past 16 years serving the Rotary Club of Hong Kong, Michael has been involved in CSR for a long time, notably completing schools in Khao Lak, Thailand (for psychologically traumatised children post the Tsunami), Yunnan province near the Myanmar border, Gansu in an earthquake damaged area and Myanmar (Typhoon damaged).

He has previously lived and worked in the UK, New Zealand, Italy, Australia, Belgium, Greece and Hong Kong. Prior to joining UBM Asia in 1994, he was trading director for the UK Global Business Group 'Vestey Group of companies" latterly based in Hong Kong.

He is married to Jasmine, an Armenian Iranian and has three children aged 21/19/17, two living in Hong Kong and one at University in the UK.

Michael is an avid collector of antique books, tennis, fly-fishing and enjoys good food and wine.
