"In the Netherlands, where there is little or no tradition of citizenship, Common Purpose has a difficult job: to engage individuals from all parts of the community, and inspire them to transform society."

Common Purpose Hamburg launches in Germany

Common Purpose Hamburg, the fourth programme in Germany, was launched on 26 September at an event held in the palatial surroundings of the historic Hamburg Chamber of Commerce.

The President of the Chamber, Dr. Dreyer, welcomed Common Purpose to the city and there were further speeches from Dr. von Westerholt (Board Member of Common Purpose Germany), a leading Hamburg industrialist, a senior representative from one of Germany's largest charitable trusts and a graduate of the Frankfurt programme.

Several members of the Common Purpose International team flew out for the occasion and all the German programme staff came along to help (and to celebrate afterwards!). The Spiegel magazine, Hamburger Abendblatt and North German Radio all covered the programme launch, which was attended by over 150 people. The first programme begins on 1 November.
